Knee PainKnee Pain

Knee pain can often be a very frustrating injury, but here at Active Family Care Chiropractic in Summerville SC,we look at it in a unique way, which enables us to get consistent and lasting results for our patients.

The knee is a complex joint that does a simple job: synchronizing the hip and ankle. The hip and ankle move at vastly different rates of speed, so that is why we experience pain and discomfort in our knees, if our hips or ankles are not working properly. Healthy knees need one important item: proper alignment with the load bearing joints above and below (ie: hips and ankles). Our knees rarely have problems if they are aligned and allowed to work properly. Now we must keep in consideration any traumatic injuries (ie: ACL/PCL tears, meniscal tears or any other ligaments problems) when diagnosing your knee pain. If there is no traumatic injury, the most common cause of your knee pain is due to bio-mechanical or soft tissue restrictions, that are causing abnormal wear and tear on your knees.

What We Evaluate:

  1. bio-mechanical functionality of your pelvis, hips and lower extremities
  2. soft tissue analysis of your quadriceps, glut's, hamstrings, tensor fascia latae, calves and hip rotator cuff

If your joints are not functioning properly, then they will be putting abnormal wear and tear on your knees. Over time this abnormal wear and tear will predispose your knees to injuries. Also if your muscles are not functioning properly (ie: your quadriceps are tight, their tendon that is attaching into your knee will become tight and inflammed, causing pain in your knee) then they will be applying abnormal stress on your knee.

How We Treat Knee Pain:

  1. Active Release Technique to break down old scar tissue that may be impeding your joints from moving appropriately and allowing blood and oxygen to move back and forth into your muscles.
  2. Active Rehab to restore range of motion and strength to your knees so long term there are no lasting affects.
